According to a report by the International Society of Cosmetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), the number of plastic surgery per 1,000 people in 2011 was 13.5, the highest in Korea. It is interesting to note that Korea has the largest number of cosmetic surgeries in terms of population ratio.
There are several reasons why Korea became a powerhouse of cosmetic surgery. First, it is the elaborate and fast hands of Korean doctors. It is common for Korean plastic surgeons to take an hour to put the implants in for breast augmentation and to finish the surgery, but doctors in other countries usually take three hours. Fast hand techniques and meticulousness reduce complications and recover quickly. Therefore, it is a good place to go to Korea for a short schedule and do plastic surgery.
Having plastic surgery in lunchtime So-called ‘lunch surgery’ is an unusual cosmetic surgery in the world. Fillers and botox-based procedures are often used for sightseeing or business visits due to the advantage of changing the impression with one shot. As Korea is a cosmopolitan country, cosmetic surgeons are much more than local size. Therefore, the high-cost strategy does not work and the cost of molding is about 1/10 of that of US or Japan.
As such, Korean cosmetic culture and environment have become a platform to satisfy not only Koreans but foreign patients as well as technology and price.
